✨ Inspiration

We've all read or watched great stories — Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games — and felt inspired by their heroes' journeys. But one day, I realized: aren't we all on our own hero's journey? Every day, we face challenges, experience growth, and learn new lessons. I wanted a way to see my life as a story worth telling — and not just through plain journaling, but in a way that feels alive. That spark of an idea became Odyscribe, a journaling app that acts as your personal bard, turning your reflections into narrative chapters with immersive narration.

Odyscribe helps you:

🔐 Sign up securely — with email confirmation and password reset to keep your data safe.
✍️ Write your daily reflections — anything from a short thought to a detailed account.
📖 Transform entries into storybook chapters — using Nebius AI to craft narrative‑style prose.
🎧 Listen to your journey — with ElevenLabs for natural, immersive narration (or fallback to built‑in TTS when tokens run out).
📈 Track your growth — through a personal profile timeline summarizing how your story evolves over time.

🛠️ How We Built It

💻 Frontend: Built with Next.js and TailwindCSS for a clean, responsive interface.
🔒 Backend & Auth: Supabase handles authentication, database, and secure data storage.
🤖 AI Chapter Generation: Integrated Nebius AI for transforming journal entries into narrative chapters.
🎤 Narration: Used ElevenLabs API for lifelike voice narration, with fallback to native TTS when tokens are exhausted.
🚀 Hosting: Deployed using Vercel for fast, scalable delivery.

📚 What We Learned

🎨 AI + Creativity: We explored how AI can enhance personal storytelling while keeping the human voice and emotions at the center.
🔧 Full‑stack integration: Gained experience combining authentication, database management, and multiple external APIs in one cohesive app.
♿ Accessibility & fallback design: Learned to provide graceful fallbacks (native TTS) when premium resources (like ElevenLabs tokens) are unavailable.

🚧 Challenges We Faced

🎫 API Token Management: Balancing AI generation and TTS with limited API tokens required careful fallback design.
✨ Maintaining Narrative Quality: Ensuring AI‑generated chapters felt natural and meaningful, rather than generic.
⏰ Time Constraints: Building and polishing a multi‑feature app within a hackathon's time frame meant prioritizing core functionality over "nice‑to‑haves."
