Inspiration

As most people do, I juggle multiple apps on a daily basis. One for workouts, meditation, health, recipes, habits, meals, and the list goes on. Each one with the. own login and interface. I am one person living one life. Why is my life scattered across a folder of apps that refuse to talk to each other? So I started building one place for all of it.

What it does

Odie is an all-in-one Life OS: 38 small apps inside one - productivity (todos, habits, goals, calendar, pomodoro), health (food, workouts, weight, hydration, fasting), personal (journal, mood), life management (chores, budget, recipes, pantry, shopping, wishlist, bucket list), entertainment (movies, series, games, books, courses, YouTube), and social. Each app is hand-rolled from scratch as a take on the category leader it replaces - a Todoist for tasks, a MyFitnessPal for meals, a Letterboxd for films, a YNAB for budget - but they share one account, one design system, and one data model. Turn off what you don't use. And when you can't be bothered typing, you tell Odie AI and it logs it for you.

How we built it

I built Odie three times. First web-first, to learn the real shape of the product - every screen hand-rolled so the apps felt like one product, not 38 glued together. Then I rewrote it from the ground up, all 38 apps again, properly: one shared data model, one design language, one login. That rewrite was the moment Odie became a system and not a folder. Third, I took it native with React Native - because life happens on a phone, and a phone is where a Life OS belongs.

What made all of that survivable for one person was AI. Over the last couple of years it became the force multiplier - fast enough to rewrite 38 apps twice and ship native in the same year. It didn't decide the architecture. It let me keep up with my own ambition.

Challenges we ran into

Normal bugs that you cant fix but having to argue with the AI to extract the bug fix out of the LLM. Trying to make the apps talk to each other and have a common backbone for the points system to work and the social feed was a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Thirty-eight apps, built and shipped by one person. A ground-up rewrite I actually finished. One unified data model where most products would have thirty-eight. Live on both web and native. And an AI that doesn't just chat - you tell it what you ate, lifted, or watched, and it logs it.

What we learned

Architecture beats feature count. Thirty-eight apps only work because they share one foundation. Cross-platform is a data and design problem, not a code-volume problem. And AI is a multiplier on taste, not a substitute for it.

What's next for Odie

Deeper AI agents that act across apps, richer social, broader platform reach, and more of life folded in - until the folder of apps you used to juggle is genuinely gone. One app for your whole life. Less app-switching. More living.
