Inspiration
Multi-board word games are interesting because each guess is a shared experiment. I wanted a focused implementation that makes it easy to compare information across eight boards without losing the state of the puzzle.
What it does
Octordle Pro is an independent browser-based word game with eight simultaneous five-letter boards and 13 shared guesses. It includes Daily, Unlimited, and Challenge modes, plus an eight-board solver that helps narrow candidates from green, yellow, and gray feedback.
How it was built
The project uses Astro, React, and TypeScript, with gameplay and progress stored locally in the browser. The interface supports physical and on-screen keyboards, responsive layouts, and shareable results. It is deployed as a static site on Cloudflare Pages.
Challenges
The main challenge was keeping eight boards readable while applying duplicate-aware letter scoring consistently. Keyboard focus and mobile interaction also required careful testing so that a physical keystroke never accidentally activates a previously focused on-screen key.
Accomplishments
The finished experience supports several play modes, local persistence, an eight-board solver, and a compact responsive interface without requiring an account or uploading gameplay data.
What I learned
A multi-board puzzle is best treated as an information-allocation problem. The most useful guess often helps several unresolved boards rather than trying to solve one board immediately.
