What it does
The OctoGroup's Chatbot is made to help with inquiries from Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) beneficiaries. Currently, it helps answer commonly asked questions regarding their services and resources.
Click on the blue "Click me for help!" button on the bottom right to start inquiring the chatbot about what what OHA provides to beneficiaries, such as scholarships and loans.
How I built it
The copy mockup page, which is where the button to open the chatbot is, and the web app was made with Meteor, JavaScript, and React. The chatbot was made with Google's Dialogflow. As for how we did the intents, we pooled the questions and answers from the IAmKanaka FAQ pdf file that was provided, and put them into Dialogflow's Knowledge Base feature. The project used a Meteor React Application template by Phillip Johnson and was deployed with Meteor Galaxy.
Challenges I ran into
Since we were tackling something we hadn't done before, which is working with chatbots, a good amount of time was spent trying to learn something new. Despite the time spent reading up on documentation, implementing a FAQ chatbot felt trivial with the Knowledge Base feature. Even then, it felt like we should be doing more than just answering questions.
