What it does

OCO gathers and organizes COVID rules and regulations from government sources, providing them in a simple & easy way to our 2 main target groups (laymen + business), at the same time providing them Advice on the road ahead.

  1. First users will take a quiz to cater the information in a more specific manner to their needs (whether they are laymen or business, and what they are looking for.)

  2. Covid rules and regulations segmented into 2 categories: Laymen: Food/Exercise/Chilling out (attractions and places to go) Businesses: - Necessary rules to operate/ Government Aid

  3. Advice will also be provided for user to reference to. Businesses: - Government grants/Schemes/ How to cope with changes Layman: - social activities and whether they can continue/ Covid 19 clusters (safety on places to go)

  4. We cherish all feedback from users and hence have created a feedback bar to add suggestions so that we can continue improving

How we built it

It was created using the Django full stack framework - python, JS, CSS, HTML, with Tailwind CSS as the front end and secure Django backend to hold user information (to filter relevant information) and hold Law articles.

LexisNexis and Big Data

We used LexisNexis’ database to search through law information and retrieved information such as Act 14 of the Temporary Regulations for COVID-19 disease, which was used for display. We also used APIs to display COVID-19 information at the landing page!

Challenges we ran into

  • Major time constraint. We were a team made up of NSFs, and most of us had training over weekends, hence we had to rush the project after we got home late and tired after our training.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • The fact we managed to complete the project in a short matter of time (5-6 hours) despite our busy training schedules admits serving the nation.

What we learned

  • Learned as times advance, so too does the legal practices, where nowadays most legal rules, regulations and even advice can be provided through technology (such as the website we created!)

What's next for OCO (OverCovid)

If possible, we would probably advocate OCO more online via SNS, so that OCO can make a definite and actual impact on the society, helping out our community to battle against COVID.
