With 8-12 million tons of plastic entering our oceans yearly, we needed an accessible AI tool to turn awareness into action.
What it does
OceanGuardian AI classifies marine debris from photos, maps global pollution hotspots, calculates your plastic footprint, and suggests sustainable alternatives—all powered by Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash.
How we built it
React + Vite frontend, Google Vision API for image detection, Gemini 2.5 Flash for AI analysis, and Mapbox for interactive ocean visualization.
Challenges we ran into
Optimizing AI classification accuracy for diverse debris types and handling real-time map data without a backend database.
