What Inspired Me

I didn't know what to make when i first entered MasseyHacks. I didn't know if I was gonna make a website, or make a game. It all came to view from the theme for this years' Hackathon: The Ripple Effect. It felt right to do something that would bring awareness to the polluted ocean.

What My Project Does

My project doesn't do much; it only serves as an information page so people can look at it and help them understand the basics of what the ocean is going through. I also made 2 links: the "learn more" button brings you to a separate website (not mine) so you can learn more about what Ocean Pollution is. the other link, "donate", goes to another website (also not mine) so you can actually donate to an organization so you support the global problem.

How I Built My Project

I built the website using HTML and CSS, but I mainly used html. I used BOOTSTRAP's website snippet so the website looks somewhat decent. I used divs, a-links, h-tags, and more. I used flexbox so could center and adjust the spot that it was in. I also used a blueish theme website to symbolize the ocean. I used images to make the website less boring and more entertaining. The images I used are also not mine, and I give credit to all the websites' images that I used. I used different font sizes of text to show the important, bold words. AI was used only for research reasons, not for building the website itself.

Challenges I Faced

I ran into many challenges, the first one being importing BOOTSTRAP's website snippet into CODEVRE. Once I did, though, the code was messy and unorganized. I needed to clean it up so I can access the code that I needed so I could change the text and background color. That is when i used a website that helped me organized it (http://jsonformatter.org/html-formatter#google_vignette). The next problem was actually finding all the text and tags so I can change the website to my liking. Another problem was the css wasn't responding to my html's code, which then found out it wasn't linked. Another problem was since BOOTSTRAP used css features inside the HTML code, I needed to delete the html code, and transfer it to my CSS, but I only transfered the code that I needed to make my website, since it would be time consuming to d

My Accomplishments

I was extremely happy with the way my website turned out, including centering text, changing divs to my liking, and I actually knew what the code was doing to the website. This is my first ACTUAL information website I have ever made, and I am happy with the way it turned out.

What I Learned

During my time at MasseyHacks, I learned ALOT, including how to use BOOTSTRAP's snippet websites with the help of the Mr. Millerman, and I am extremely thankful for his help in this project, I wouldn't have done it without his workshop lesson.

What's Next For Ocean Pollution: How It's Affecting the World

I didn't have much time to make any Java code, and I am looking forward to making it more smooth, dynamic, and cool using JavaScript. I also want to make it more aesthetic so people can actually read it. All these improvements I hope to make are when i am not in a limit time, but like I said, I am EXTREMELY happy with the way my code and website turned out.
