Inspiration
"Ocean Leave" (Chroma Awards Remaster) reinvents the iconic character as a real, modern, independent woman taking her first cruise vacation away from the ocean. It's not a cartoon retelling or a love story. It's a visual anthem about choosing freedom, curiosity, and becoming on your own terms. Remaseter https://vimeo.com/1105752595?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci
What it does
Ariel leaves the sea not for love, but for herself. "Ocean Leave" reimagines the mermaid myth as a modern story of self-liberation, set against a luxe, surreal cruise world where transformation is personal, not romantic.
This is her first step into the unknown — shimmering, defiant, and beautifully human. Set in a dreamlike cruise ship world, the piece blends retro soul performances, whimsical details like shell-phones, and high-glam aesthetics to create a space that feels both fantastical and deeply human. The ocean becomes a departure point, not a prison. The surface world becomes a possibility, not a prize.
The visual language balances real and fantasy: grounded enough to feel relatable, surreal enough to enchant. Each frame is crafted to feel shimmering (the glow of self-discovery), defiant (breaking expected narratives), and beautifully human (transformation of a character, out of the ordinary).
Music by DapperDuck8 brings retro soul energy that elevates the visuals into something timelessly emotional. The sound is sophisticated, warm, and resonant — perfectly supporting a story about independence wrapped in an imaginary style.
How we built it
Tools Used • Midjourney and ImagineArt: Primary visual generation and world-building • Seedance: Character animation and movement • Kling: Scene transitions and environmental details • Hedra: Performance sequences and lip-sync • Suno: Musical elements and audio enhancement • Adobe: Post-production, color grading, and final assembly
Challenges we ran into
Character consistency in Midjourney (pre-dating Nano Banana and Seedream 4). For the Chroma Awards, most footage was regenerated using Seedream 4 and then upscaled, before being resynched and animated to remove hallucinations and inconsistencies. Lip-sync was updated with Kling AI Avator Pro.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Winner of ImagineArt Creator Challenge #8: Multiverse Makeover "Ocean Leave" proves familiar stories can carry fresh meaning when we shift perspective from external validation to internal transformation. Original version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYMN6GJT1Yc
What we learned
It takes a lot of time and patience to make a video over 30 seconds long and a lot of bad generations and cost.
What's next for Ocean Leave
Lisa and Dodi will collaborate on more music videos in the future. (Both ex-Luma AI and ImagineArt CPPs) This was our first collaboration.
