Scientific data is available for those who seek it but it hardly gets mentioned for use to make independent decisions or form opinions. At school, we have all been taught to understand graphs and use numbers. The knowledge of the whereabout of data feels limited to the scientific and scholarly community found at University and other research organisations. The continuation of using techniques learned at school is lost over the years and as the knowledge is not continued, the science learned at school is no longer valid.

There are talks of STEM not being taught enough at school, and that a generation would miss out on the fundamental knowledge of using science in their everyday lives. If there is only a hand full of individuals possessing the knowledge and everything is told and automated for the masses than there is a risk in future where science becomes a mythology, simply because the masses never really knew or understood why science and the related data existed.

Welcome to the Ocean Information Managment System - A fully integrated information platform where information can be easily pushed to social media and the masses and take a chance to become a trending topic. It would surpass the capabilities of current websites where we find information arranged in a way only a few could understand it. The current websites lack design philosophies of mobile space and responsiveness to multiple screen formats found on a multitude of devices. The current presentation of scientific data is boring.

What it does

The current demonstration version showcase data and visualization compatible with mobile device screens as well as the desktop browser. The information view on mobile device is much better when compared with

How do I make money

The revenue stream will be established by serving high quality add to viewers of data and relevant scientific information. The quality of ads will be negotiated with the marketing agencies such as Google, Bing, Facebook etc.

Product differentiation

This platform will deliver authenticated data and information. It will be sourced from established research institutions around the Globe.

Marketing the product

The spokesperson from research institutions, Government agencies will be contacted for frequent comments on data and documents as they become available. The product will be marked mainly on Facebook, Google and local TV and radios and news outlets.

How I built it

I build it using full-stack development tool called Morfik found here It was programmed using a version Delphi programming language. Delphi programming language is built for elite developers who build and maintain the world’s most critical applications such as Altium Designer, which is used by NASA and SpaceX. It's a programming language that makes it easy to build more secure and scalable enterprise applications, that run faster than any other on the market.

Challenges I ran into

I was not able to get approval to access data found here My intention was to create a mashup of temperature, depth and location visualization on Google map. Fully optimised for mobile screens and easy to share and generate interest on social media.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Building a demonstration in a short period of time and actually doing a pitch in front of a competitive audience.

What I learned

There are a vast amount of scientific data and lots of interesting ways it could be used to benefit the public.

What's next for Ocean Information Management System

Requires funding and viability of strategic business model analysis to actually make it a reality.
