Inspiration
After studying the currently ongoing environmental and energy crisis in our environmental science class, our group decided to develop a project we believed would help make sustainable energy alternatives more easily understandable to those who would consider adopting them.
What it does
Our app provides a simplified and intuitive graphical representation of different configurations of solar panels and their batteries, as well as their cost and energy production so that building managers and homeowners alike would be able to more clearly see the benefit of this more sustainable energy source.
How we built it
We used Next.js, ReactFlow for our main graphical component, tailwind for css formatting, and shadcn/ui for other miscellaneous components.
Challenges we ran into
Due to unforeseen circumstances, half our group ended up not being able to attend the hackathon. Additionally, there were some initial obstacles that prevented us from being able to start coding right away.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to finish a product that we believed achieved the majority of our goals in such a short time period and with half the workforce we had anticipated having.
What we learned
We learned that being flexible when it comes to using different component libraries and technologies is extremely important and crucial when it comes to achieving as much functionality as possible.
What's next for SunScope
We're planning on adding database, user authentication, and api support to provide more detailed information, such as using geographic location to determine the power generated during each season.
