Inspiration

When my brother shared the exciting news that he was going to be a father, I witnessed firsthand the overwhelming journey of pregnancy preparation. I watched him constantly searching the web for health information about his wife, repeatedly entering the same clinical details—medical history, food restrictions, allergies—across different platforms and forums. This repetitive, fragmented process inspired me to create a solution that would streamline this experience.

I envisioned an app where expectant parents could input their comprehensive pregnancy profile just once during onboarding, then receive personalized, AI-driven guidance throughout their entire pregnancy journey. The goal was to transform the scattered, anxiety-inducing web searches into a cohesive, supportive digital companion.

Obstie is a comprehensive pregnancy companion mobile app that leverages AI to provide personalized care throughout the pregnancy journey.

🤖 AI-Powered Pregnancy Profile Analysis Our intelligent system analyzes each user's unique clinical profile—including family history, allergies, medications, and lifestyle factors—to deliver personalized insights and recommendations tailored specifically to their pregnancy.

🩺 AI-Powered Symptom Checker Users can describe symptoms or ask health-related questions and receive reliable, AI-generated guidance that's customized to their individual pregnancy profile, helping reduce anxiety and provide immediate support.

📊 Custom CSV Reports for Healthcare Providers The app generates detailed weekly reports of tracked data, including symptoms, baby movements, and vital signs, which can be easily exported and shared with doctors for more informed consultations.

👶 Weekly Baby Development Updates Users receive engaging, science-backed updates about their baby's development, complete with practical tips and milestone information tailored to their current pregnancy stage.

📱 Smart Kick & Contraction Tracker A simple, intuitive interface allows users to log baby kicks and contractions with a single tap, while our AI analyzes patterns to help monitor the baby's well-being.

🔒 Privacy-First Data Protection All sensitive health information is encrypted and stored locally on the device, ensuring complete privacy protection—data is never used to train AI models or shared with third parties.

How we built it

I began the development process using Bolt.new, initially planning to create just a basic react native prototype. However, I was amazed by the platform's capabilities and ended up building the complete app boilerplate, designing all pages, and implementing the core UI elements directly within the tool.

After Bolt.new handled the majority of the heavy lifting, I transitioned to VS Code where I used additional AI assistance to fine-tune the application, optimize performance, and add the finishing touches that brought the vision to life.

I used Supabase edge functions for the AI requests and RevenueCat for the subscription management.

Challenges we ran into

This project presented several significant learning curves:

  • React Native Learning Curve: This was my first experience with React Native development, requiring me to quickly master mobile app development concepts and best practices.
  • App Store Complexity: Navigating the App Store submission process proved challenging, particularly understanding the intricate rules around paywall implementation and subscription management systems.
  • Time Constraints: Balancing feature completeness with the hackathon deadline required strategic prioritization and efficient development practices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Delivered a Complete Mobile App: Successfully created and deployed a fully functional mobile application within the hackathon timeframe, despite having no prior React Native experience.
  • AI Integration Excellence: Seamlessly integrated multiple AI-powered features that provide genuine value to users.
  • User-Centric Design: Created an intuitive, privacy-focused solution that addresses real-world problems faced by expectant parents.

What we learned

This project was a masterclass in leveraging AI tools for rapid development. I discovered how modern AI platforms can dramatically accelerate the development process, allowing developers to focus on problem-solving and user experience rather than getting bogged down in boilerplate code. The experience taught me the importance of choosing the right tools and being open to AI-assisted development workflows.

What's next for Obstie

The roadmap for Obstie includes expanding into a comprehensive pregnancy wellness platform:

  • Enhanced Wellness Features: Adding dedicated sections for nutrition guidance, exercise routines, and sleep optimization tailored to each trimester.
  • Community Integration: Building a supportive community feature where users can connect with other expectant parents at similar stages.
  • Healthcare Provider Portal: Developing a companion dashboard for healthcare providers to better monitor their patients' progress.
  • Postpartum Support: Extending the app's functionality to support new mothers during the postpartum period and early childcare stages.
