Object Detection for the Blind

Inspiration

We wanted to create something with a potential real-world application.

What it does

The user can touch certain objects and the name of the object will be said through your computer.

How we built it

We built this project using a simple python script and an Arduino circuit.

What's next for Object Detection for the Blind

The next step can include removing the need for a physical connection to ground. We could instead attach a magnetic lead to the end of a walking stick that can detect nearby objects that may be useful to identify so the user can touch to object without having both hands on it. A more complex version of this could also be created that identifies new objects without them needing to be predefined and relays the object name through an earpiece instead of out loud.
