Inspiration

Our inspiration was the massive gap between highly engaging XR entertainment and meaningful personal growth content. We wanted to move beyond the flat, 2D interfaces of current wellness apps to create a truly transformative, immersive experience. The core idea is that the virtual environment itself—segmented into Origin, Present, and Future Zones—can be a powerful tool for psychological shift and self-reflection. Our team, which includes a Digital Strategist and Data Scientist (Abimbola A. Otegbeye) and an Experience Architect (Mohammed B. Kemal), was uniquely positioned to combine emotional design with data-driven progression.

What it does

O.P.F Meta Horizon is a structured, mobile-first XR journey that enables players to live, shape, and transform their past, present, and future. In the Origin Zone, users reflect on their past through interactive Memory Rings. The Present Zone features Life Stations (Health, Wealth, Mindset) for active skill-building. Finally, the Future Zone provides an aspirational space for visualization. The experience is designed to be highly social and accessible, leveraging the mobile platform for short, meaningful sessions and easy collaboration.

How we built it

We approached the challenge with a mobile-first design philosophy, which forces clarity, simplicity, and performance. While built initially using Three.js and WebXR for platform-agnostic development, the core design principles—such as large, "fat-finger-friendly" tap targets and a clean visual hierarchy—are directly transferrable and optimized for Meta Horizon's mobile capabilities. We used event-based zone transitions and mobile-optimized particle systems to ensure the world is performant, achieving a console-level feel even on smaller screens.

Challenges we ran into

The primary challenge was maintaining visual richness and emotional impact while adhering to strict mobile performance budgets. We had to ruthlessly simplify complexity, focusing on polished core features rather than numerous half-finished ones. Another challenge, highlighted by our initial WebXR development, was ensuring a seamless transition of custom logic and unique interaction models into the Horizon platform, especially in areas like custom UI and object interaction.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of successfully creating a new category of 'Purpose-Driven XR' that is accessible to non-gamers and works flawlessly on a range of mobile devices. We achieved performance targets that demonstrate what's possible within mobile XR constraints, while retaining the essential psychological design that drives player transformation. This project is a strong case study in Progressive Enhancement, starting simple and ensuring content availability for all devices.

What we learned

We learned that when building for a competition with a tight deadline, it's crucial to "underpromise and overdeliver" by keeping the initial concept simple and focusing entirely on polish and performance. We also validated that mobile-first design is inherently more accessible and innovative, as its constraints force clarity, which is a key requirement for mobile Horizon Worlds.

What's next for O.P.F Meta Horizon: Your Origin, Present & Future

The immediate next step is integrating advanced social features like leaderboards and social sharing. Our long-term vision is to evolve O.P.F into a creator platform and marketplace, allowing coaches, educators, and other creators to build and sell their own purpose-driven modules and themes on the O.P.F framework. We also plan to pursue Enterprise Licensing for corporate and educational wellness programs.
