Inspiration

Inspired by the water crisis in Flint, MI. We want residents of New York to be able to quickly explore data pertaining to lead concentrations in public school drinking water.

What it does

The site enables users to search for public schools in New York State. Users can filter results by school name or district. When a school is selected, some basic information about their drinking water quality is displayed. The site also provides information about lead concentrations and links to the CDC for more information.

How we built it

Built with Node/Express.js, Python + Jupyter, Vue.js, Docker + Docker-Compose, NGINX. APIDoc was used to generate our documentation.

Challenges we ran into

The data we pulled from the NY Open Data Office is inconsistent in a few areas.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Turnaround of the project from concept to deployed application.

What we learned

A lot of schools in update New York have lackluster water quality standards that fail to meet CDC recommendations.

What's next for NYwater.info
