Inspiration

We thought about problems that NYUAD students face and one that kept resurfacing is the fact that students were not leaving campus as much as they would like because they do not know the city well enough. NYUAD can feel like a bubble sometimes and so we decided to create a web app that eases the exploration of Abu Dhabi in hopes that it could encourage more students to go into the city.

What it does

Users log in and have the option of adding places that they visited. The users can also review these places and give them a rating and estimated budget. Other users can then view those places and their ratings, budget, as well as more information about the places such as location.

How we built it

The project was built using the python flask framework on the pycharm IDE. We used bootstrap for the front-end and sqlite3 for database management.

Challenges we ran into

We did not have enough time to create an outings section which was meant to help users pick a place and organize an outing to it, along with other students. This is something that could help programs at NYUAD such as RA and FYD outings.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have a functional web application that has sample places and reviews along with a log in system that makes sure users are signed in before they can review, to ensure it is only accessed by members of the NYUAD community.

What we learned

We learned to collaborate and code better in a team and improved our skills in python, HTML, and CSS.

What's next for NYU(AD)Explorer

We would like to implement the outings feature which would allow students to organize outings with other users on the web application.
