Inspiration: Patient movement throughout hospital is disorienting to families and leaves them disconnected with and anxious about their loved ones.
How it works: NYP Patient Updater is an easy to use Text Messaging interface for Unit Assistants and other members of the provider team to communicate with patient families about the whereabouts of their loved ones in the hospital.
Challenges we ran into: Creating a user-friendly interface that is accessible to members of the provider team without burdensome training.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Will improve patient and family experiences of hospitalization drastically.
What we learned: Concepts surrounding scalability and adding value to complex systems through discreet processes.
What's next for NYP Patient Updater: Proof of concept through pilot study in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at NYP-Columbia.
