Inspiration
When we were discussing female health and how tough it is for women to access simple things, we realised that in India (the home country of 3 of us) women find it tough to buy contraceptives. During our research, we realised that sex being a taboo and social stigma around buying contraceptive are big inhibitors. During our quest to solve this we learnt that half of the pregnancies in India are unintended. Only 130+ million women have access to contraceptives out of 300mn, and many still find it uncomfortable buying it from their local pharmacy. Women tend to not want people to know they are using their contraceptives, including their families. We also realised that a lot of people don’t even have basic knowledge of contraceptives or pregnancy. People who do know about it tend to forget it often. No player in the market was responding to these needs of women.
What it does
So we designed our product accordingly. We analysed every need of the consumer and tried to incorporate them into our idea. We planned to sell contraceptives online and plan to ship them in a discreet box to ensure privacy. We provide them with reminder notification so that they don’t miss a dosage. In case they do we provide them with reliable medical knowledge and the next steps. We also are preparing a knowledge base of questions frequently asked by women.
How we built it
We built the prototype of the app on Figma. We used google drive to collate a word doc with all our ideas and research. We created our video presentation using google slides. We also bought a domain Nyosh.tech using the website domain.com. Although our landing page is still in progress.
Challenges we ran into
The first challenge we ran into was how to reach out to people. We got the idea during the discussion with our mentor that to reach out to customer and expand the market, we should market our service through organisations working towards women health and wellness. We should also partner with schools to hold sex education training. We can reach to the younger audience using social media marketing and the cost for AdWords was 50p.
The second challenge was the small value items we plan to sell. To solve this problem we plan to add more high-value products with time. We can also plan a larger order for oral contraceptive given its nature of regular consumption. We also plan to introduce telehealth services for gynaecologist needs to improve our CLV.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our team-work to turnaround such a huge project in such less time. Each team member performed his best and that’s why we could achieve it. We are proud of our prototype as well. We never believed we could do such high-quality work. I guess team-work helped here as well. We are most proud of the solution we build because of its impact on the lives of millions of women in India. Small efforts like this can make this world a better place for everyone.
What we learned
We learnt about how people from different fields can help each other. Working with a smart team makes work a lot more fun. The best part of this hackathon was we made new friends.
What's next for Nyosh
Nyosh will remain strong and we would keep building it because we believe it has real potential to solve a big consumer problem. We also believe that this market has a huge opportunity.
