Inspiration

We were inspired by our school website (nyit.edu). They recently revamped it and we loved their design choices

What it does

In its current state it is a simple design for the homepage of the club and it gives reasons as to why someone should join. We are in talks for the club to use this website during their recruitment and it is our hope that soon this hackathon project will be used by the club in real life.

How we built it

This was Justin's first time even touching web technologies and he coded it all himself as I guided him. We used VSCode to write our code and used the live-server extension to test it. Once done, we deployed it on vercel.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into issues with our div structure and had to nest another div inside a div for the desired result. This meant we needed to restyle everything. We also struggled on the design end and were not sure exactly how we wanted it to look.

Another issue was trying to fade the carousel element while also making sure the content is visible. There was also a bug where the carousel wouldnt change on the interval we set it too, and so that caused us issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

For Justin's first time coding frontend, I am extremely proud of the work we have done, especially in such a short amount of time (3-4 hours). Both of us learned so much and created a great, attractive product, so we are both so proud of our work.

What we learned

We learned about the basics of web development, how to use bootstrap and incorporate libraries, and we learned about CSS Properties. We also learned how to use JavaScript to fade elements into frame so we can make modern web applications.

What's next for NYIT ACM Club Homepage

We will continue to develop it and plan for it to become the landing page for the ACM internal platform.
