Inspiration
Seeing inequality within the New York City school system has been a continuous observation in our lives. Racial and economic inequality has been rampant in recent years, and this has unfortunately extended into the school system. From the wealthiest Upper East Side, to the less advantaged South Bronx, the quality of children's education has been effected. In particular, STEM fields are in all time high demand, but the quality of STEM education in some parts of the city is lacking. We created this website to educate and provide resources for underrepresented minorities in NYC to use to get access to STEM education, even if their school does not provide it.
What it does
Our website educates on the issue of STEM education inequality in NYC and provides resources for students in NYC to obtain the materials and lessons they need to learn or pursue their computer science education.
How we built it
We used Qoom and implemented HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap.
Challenges we ran into
Using Qoom for the first time was a challenge, but once we figured out how to use the interface, we really liked the simplicity and format.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the flow and organization of our website.
What we learned
We learned how to use Qoom, and how to better organize a website for a smooth UI and flow.
What's next for NYC STEM Education
We would love to add more resources and the ability for users to connect through the website to offer more resources, technology, internships, jobs, etc.
