Problem

New Yorkers want to feel connected to the places they call home, but NYC's constantly changing landscape can make it difficult to encounter and maintain the human stories, memories, and community context that give those places meaning.

Hypothesis

As NYC changes, the lived stories and experiences that give neighborhoods and local places their meaning can become disconnected from the places themselves. Existing documentation tends to preserve facts, images, or individual posts, but doesn't necessarily preserve the human perspectives and everyday experiences that make a place meaningful. This creates a loss of continuity for people who experienced those places, and makes it harder for others to understand the communities and histories that shaped the city.

NYC, scrapbooked.

A place is more than its physical presence. It's the memories, people, and stories attached to it.

We already have countless archives of NYC.

What if exploring those memories felt less like researching history and more like making a scrapbook? Search for a place. • Rummage through its collective memories. • Choose what speaks to you. • Add your own reflection. • Make something to remember it by.
