What inspired me- Since I was a kid, I’ve seen many real situations where people around me struggled because they didn’t know what legal steps to take. I saw one of my classmates being bullied, yet he stayed silent because he was scared. One of my elder cousins was trapped in an online scam where a fake police officer filed a fake FIR over a phone call, and no one in the family knew what to do. At home, whenever my father faced any legal issue, he always had to call my elder uncle because he didn’t have much legal knowledge. A neighbour once bought a phone online and received an empty box, but he had no clue what evidence he needed to collect. In college too, there were incidents where girls and boys faced harassment in clubs or were abused after being drunk, and many didn’t report it out of fear. I’ve also seen domestic violence cases where victims didn’t take action simply because they didn’t understand the process. All these incidents made me realize something important people don’t avoid justice because they’re wrong they avoid it because they don’t know where to begin. This is what inspired me to build NyaySaathi

What it does NyaySaathi is a private, friendly AI that helps people in stressful legal situations—online blackmailing, harassment, fraud, receiving an empty box from an online order, workplace bullying, domestic violence, and more. Many victims stay silent because they are scared, ashamed, or confused. NyaySaathi lets them talk openly and safely to an AI that listens without judging. The AI understands their story, checks thousands of similar past cases, and guides them on: what evidence to collect, what usually happens in such cases, what legal sections may apply, and how strong or risky their situation is. It then prepares a clear, lawyer-ready case summary and connects them to the best lawyer with the highest success rate for similar cases. NyaySaathi makes justice easy to understand, safe to ask for, and accessible to everyone.

How we built it- NLP so users can talk in normal language. A hybrid RAG model trained on past case outcomes, laws, and judgments. OCR to read photos and documents uploaded by users. Machine learning to detect risks and power bias. A secure backend with end-to-end encryption and blockchain audit logs. A clean, simple frontend that anyone can use without fear. All parts work together to take a person from confusion - clarity -evidence - case summary -best lawyer.

Challenges we ran into We faced many challenges: Legal data is very unorganized, so cleaning and training took time. We had to avoid giving “direct legal advice,” so we built a story-mode system. Adding bias and power detection was difficult. Creating correct evidence checklists for different cases was challenging. Building full privacy and encryption took extra effort.Designing an interface that feels safe for harassment victims required care. Making the tool multilingual was harder than expected. But we learned and solved each issue step by step.

Accomplishments that we're proud of- We are proud that NyaySaathi can: Listen to people who have no one to talk to. Guide users based on real past cases, not random guesses.Help them collect the right evidence at the right moment. Prepare a complete timeline, legal sections, and case brief automatically.Detect social bias and power imbalance. Connect users to the best lawyer for their case. Actually make people feel safe during stressful moments. We are proud that our project can genuinely change someone’s life.

What we learned- We learned: People need empathy more than technology when they are scared. The legal gap in society is much bigger than we thought. How to build hybrid RAG systems with large amounts of legal data. How to structure unorganized conversations into proper case files. How to use encryption and blockchain for privacy. How small evidence steps can prevent months of court delays. That technology can make justice feel human and accessible

What's next for NyaySaathi- Our next goals:

Add support for many Indian languages.

Bring NyaySaathi to other countries with local legal data.

Add voice-based conversation for rural users.

Improve our outcome prediction model.

Partner with lawyers, NGOs, and government systems.

Allow auto-filing of simple complaints.

Launch the mobile app publicly.

Expand to the US, UK, and Europe with jurisdiction-specific RAG.

Our dream is simple: No one should ever feel alone, scared, or confused when facing a legal situation. NyaySaathi should stand with them from the very first step.
