Inspiration

NyayAI was inspired by the complexity of the Indian legal system, which often feels inaccessible to the average citizen due to dense jargon and high costs. We recognized a need for a platform that could democratize legal knowledge, empowering users to understand their rights as tenants, employees, or consumers without needing an immediate legal background.

What it does

How we built it

We developed the application using a React-based frontend to ensure a responsive user experience[. The core logic integrates AI models specifically trained on Indian laws, procedures, and government portals to provide relevant and accurate information. We also utilized Markdown for structured documentation and implemented LaTeX to handle any technical or mathematical expressions required for legal clarity.

Challenges we ran into

One of the primary hurdles was ensuring the AI could translate complex legal statutes into clear, non-technical advice while maintaining accuracy. We also faced the technical challenge of integrating LaTeX math mode—specifically ensuring both inline mode $ ... $ and display mode $$...$$ rendered correctly within the project description[cite: 3].

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building a tool that focuses on social impact by making legal help 100% free and accessible. Successfully creating a system that can generate valid document templates, like legal notices, represents a significant step toward bridging the gap between legal information and legal action.

What we learned

Through this process, we gained a deeper understanding of various Indian regulations, such as the Payment of Wages Act. On the technical side, we mastered Markdown syntax for project formatting and learned how to use LaTeX typesetting to professionally render formulas and equations.

What's next for NyayAI

Moving forward, we aim to expand the number of languages supported to reach a broader demographic across India. We also plan to integrate more specialized government resources and improve the AI's ability to guide users through complex court filing procedures.
