We were inspired by the challenge of analysing large amounts of case information and evidence. Judges may need to identify important facts, connections, timelines, and possible inconsistencies from complex case information. We wanted to explore how AI could assist in this process without replacing human judgement.

Our vision is simple: AI assists. Humans decide. Justice remains at the center.

What it does

NyayaAI is an AI-powered case analysis assistant designed to help judges analyse complex case information efficiently.

It provides:

  • Key Fact Extraction – Identifies important facts and clues.
  • Evidence Mapping – Finds relationships between different pieces of evidence.
  • Case Timeline – Organises important events chronologically.
  • Contradiction Alerts – Highlights possible inconsistencies or missing information for review.
  • Investigation Insights – Suggests areas and questions that may need further examination.
  • Structured Case Summary – Converts large amounts of case information into an easy-to-understand summary.

NyayaAI supports the judge while keeping the final decision in human hands.

How we built it

We followed a structured workflow: Understand the Problem → Research & Plan → Design Solution → Build Prototype → Test & Debug → Iterate & Improve.

We first studied the problem and identified user needs. We researched existing case-management solutions and analysed their limitations. Then we designed the system workflow, planned the required features, developed a working web prototype, tested its functionality, fixed issues, and improved the prototype through iteration and feedback.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was designing a system that could handle complex case information while keeping the information organised and easy to understand. We also had to think carefully about how AI could provide useful assistance without taking away human judgement.

Building and testing the prototype, connecting multiple analysis features into one platform, and ensuring that the workflow remained simple and understandable were also important challenges.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a working NyayaAI web prototype that demonstrates our concept.

We successfully brought multiple case-analysis capabilities together in one platform, including key-fact identification, evidence connections, timeline organisation, contradiction alerts, investigation support, and structured case summaries.

Most importantly, we designed NyayaAI around the principle that AI assists, but the judge remains in control.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned how to convert a real-world problem into a technology-based solution. We learned the importance of understanding user needs, researching existing solutions, planning system features, building prototypes, testing, debugging, and continuously improving the solution.

We also learned that AI should be designed as a support system for human decision-making, especially in areas where human judgement is essential.

What's next for NyayaAI

Our next goal is to improve NyayaAI into a more advanced and reliable case-analysis platform.

We would like to enhance its ability to analyse larger and more complex case information, improve evidence connections and inconsistency detection, strengthen investigation insights, and make the system more useful for real-world case analysis.

The long-term vision is to build a comprehensive AI-assisted platform that can help reduce analysis time and case burden while keeping human judgement and justice at the centre.nspiration
