Inspiration

About the Project – NWZUP 🗞️ 🌱 Inspiration We were overwhelmed by the current state of news — filled with paywalls, endless ads, clickbait, and biased perspectives. For Gen Z and busy professionals, consuming trustworthy news felt more like a chore than a habit. We realized there was no space that delivered short, factual, verified news without chaos. That’s when the idea for NWZUP was born: a bite-sized, bias-free, AI-powered news platform with a civil, community-driven discussion layer.

🛠️ How We Built It NWZUP was built using a stack of open-source tools and custom Python automation. Our backend includes a real-time news scraping system that fetches over 1000+ articles per day across 20+ categories. We then run these articles through AI models to summarize them into 60-word news bites, fact-check them across sources, and tag them by scope and importance. The frontend was designed for modern mobile-first behavior, and we used Bolt’s Lovable and other hackathon tools to design our MVP with clean UX, animations, and interactivity.

💡 What We Learned News doesn’t need to be long — just meaningful.

AI can enhance trust in media if used ethically.

Gen Z cares about facts but wants them fast, mobile, and shareable.

Content moderation and personalization are key for building a healthy digital community.

⚠️ Challenges Faced Building a scalable pipeline that filters biased or AI-generated content while respecting copyright and fair use.

Ensuring summaries remained accurate while compressing 600–2000 word articles into 60 words.

Designing for all age groups while keeping the app Gen Z–friendly.

Making the MVP visually appealing, stable, and live within the hackathon time limits.
