Inspiration
Not being able to intake our required nutrient goals in a busy schedule.
What it does
It lets users see the nutrient requirements from their grocery purchases and lets them know if they meet or lack certain requirements.
How we built it
We used an open-source database of food items and 'easyocr' to scan grocery receipts and then use it to calculate the nutrient requirements
Challenges we ran into
How to calculate the requirements, using a good database, and the front end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
That it can calculate all the nutrients of a grocery receipt in real time using OCR technology compare it with the requirements and show the difference to the end user.
What we learned
HTML and Front End, a lot about nutrient requirements, and how to make a Website overall.
What's next for NutS
Make the recommendations section better and help users navigate their next steps to intake their required nutrients. Have more features like converting pounds to Grams, etc, make it more robust to handle all sorts of cases other than the standard ones, add more complex nutrient breakdowns like the split between Vitamins, etc, and suggest food sources for that particular nutrient of which the user has a deficit of.
