NutriVerseAI was built from a simple idea: eating healthy shouldn’t feel complicated. In reality, people struggle not because they lack knowledge, but because meal planning, nutrition tracking, and grocery management are all disconnected. I wanted to bring everything into one place - a smart system that helps users plan meals, track nutrition, manage their pantry, and reduce food waste, while also understanding how cooking affects their mood.
Inspiration
Everyday problems inspired the project:
- Forgetting food in the pantry until it expires
- Struggling to stay consistent with nutrition goals
- Lack of awareness around cooking habits and emotions
I aimed to build something that feels less like a tool and more like a smart kitchen companion.
What it does
- Tracks nutrition progress, mood awareness, and users' preferences to suggest nutrition-rich meals.
- Manages a smart pantry with expiry tracking.
- Allows users to create, share, and explore recipes
- Includes a cultural cuisine feature with traditional recipes, authenticity insights, regional variations, taboos, serving customs, history, and much more.
- Allow users to create nutrition-rich recipes manually or automatically via just ingredients
- The entire theme and every feature is designed to take into account calories, fat, sustainability, and carbon footprint, and environmental impact.
- Allow users to create meal plans with defined calories and dietary preferences.
How we built it
- Frontend: React + TypeScript, TailwindCSS, Shadcn/ui
- Backend: Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL (Drizzle ORM)
- Auth: Session-based authentication with Passport.js
- AI: Used for meal suggestions, nutrition insights, and mood analysis
Challenges we ran into
- Handling complex relationships between food, recipes, and nutrition
- Keeping real-time tracking smooth and responsive
- Avoiding UI clutter while supporting many features
- Making AI outputs actually useful, not just impressive
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- A complete industry-ready project
- A unique project of that kind
- The real-world problem it tackles
What I learned
- Creating a full-stack app with multiple interconnected services
- Designing clean and scalable database schemas and UI
- Using AI in a practical, user-focused way
What's next for NutriVerse AI
- More community features like comments, gamification
- A more advanced version of current cultural experience feature.
