We wanted to make an interactive bot that helped us do something practical outside of the 24 hour hackathon in our daily lives. Since a healthy diet is arguably more crucial than exercise, we aimed our app's goal for the sake of the diet!
What it does
It takes in a user inputted picture and returns nutritional facts back to them such as the amount of fats, carbs, and calories.
How we built it
We used Microsoft Bot framework to build our bot on Node.js and hosted it using the Azure cloud service. Then we used Cognitive Services API for their Computer Vision so that we could use image recognition to determine what the item was in the user submitted images. Then we compared that item using the Nutrionix API to access their vastly large and verified database to access 500,000 unique food items.
Challenges we ran into
Learning the syntax with Node.js.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very proud of our accomplishments with learning about all the services Microsoft has to offer.
What we learned
We learned many new frameworks, APIs, and services provided by Microsoft.
What's next for nutritionBot
A database to store user specific data so that they may set their own dietary intake.
