Inspiration

As someone who has always had a problem with weight management, a tool that can allow me to figure out what I’m eating is something that might not only help me, but also others with the same problem.

What it does

We have two features of the app, one is an image recognition section where you can take a picture or upload a picture of any food label, and it will provide you with the nutritional information of whatever the content in the picture is. The other part is a search section where you can search for anything you have eaten, and it will provide you with the nutritional information of that as well.

How we built it

This is a project made on Android Studio using Flutter and Dart. I’ve been learning Dart for a while now and have gotten better at is so I thought this would be a good opportunity to test out my work

Challenges we ran into

I was not as good at dart as I originally thought. Although I had prior knowledge on how to code it, all the plug-ins that I needed to implement and and the code itself, it was much more changing then originally thought. Also, Gradle is annoying, and I have had to spend a lot of time debugging it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite not knowing where to start or how to code the application in the first place, I was still able to learn and persevere through any challenges that came my way.

What we learned

I learned patience and resiliency when it comes to all challenges, coding or general life. It was also a humbling experience because although I knew I wasn’t the greatest coder, I realized that there is still a lot left to learn and do.

What's next for Healthy Bites

I plan on publishing the app to the app store. On top of that, I also hope to implement a calorie tracker feature in the app that allows people to see the nutritional information of everything that they have eaten.
