Inspiration
There are many healthy eating apps currently that track calories and weight but we wanted to provide a separate experience that isn't easily available.
What it does
The app initially asks the user for their preferences and based on that information, it takes an input of a certain ingredient and returns the best possible replacement according to their needs. If the current ingredient is the "healthiest" it indicates that as well.
How we built it
The entire project was written using React with MaterialUI. For the nutritional information, we were planning on using the USDA Nutrient Database API.
Challenges we ran into
Each team member was relatively new to using React so the entire project was a learning curve on top of simply trying to complete it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're most proud that we have even a simple UI to show as it's an indication that we did gain a new skill, albeit one that needs to be trained.
What we learned
How to use React to accomplish different tasks, especially alongside a UI component.
What's next for Nutrition App
We would absolutely like to build upon this idea and, with further practice and training, complete a proper complete version that can be used by others for their dieting needs.
