Inspiration

SO... once upon a time... there was a business venture — if it can even be referred to as such — that referred to itself as Theranos. TheraNOS. They claimed, with their repulsive indifference for human suffering and greed, that their magical "Edison" device could test for essentially any and every ailment to ever exist at any point in time ever with little more than a modicum of blood, if even that — they had the stuff and you just needed to buy. Needless to say... that was beyond to good to be true. And in actuality, "too good to be true" is a mercy; at best, the assertion was outright fantastical.

There is nothing fantastical about Theravos. TheraVOS (pronounced THERA-WOSE). We offer a true medical solution for our beloved medical professionals that work so hard and we are definitely NOT indifferent to human condition. We care about YOU (i.e., vos in Latin), and we would not selfishly extort for the sake of US (i.e., nos in Latin)

What it does

The Tumor Classification System (T.C.S.™) is an image recognition software meant to be used by medical professionals — radiologists — that specializes in processing mammogram imagery and highlighting critical points in imaging results in order to decrease patient overload.

How we built it

Two breasts– ugh I meant heads are better than one, and there is power in numbers — so we, by no means, are going to attempt to reinvent the wheel. The blunt of the heavy-lifting is accomplished by an integrated 3rd party Large Vision Model API (Roboflow) and is implemented fairly simply with Python and some sparse HTML to make a clean UI.

Challenges we ran into

Training the AI model with limited time was a little dubious and getting the client-end to communicate properly with the API back end took a minute.

...and then there is dark mode...

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Learning about new, expansive fields — learned what an LVM even is
  • Problem solving — forced to focus on utility and practicality of "just another AI tool"

What we learned

Software engineering, or rather, engineering is essentially problem solving. The Hackathon is less of a "coding competition" and more of an "idea competition" ... and a small bit of a "recycling competition."

What's next for Theravos

. . . ... world domination
