Inspiration

Healthy eating starts with understanding what we consume, but tracking nutrition is often time-consuming and confusing. Many people struggle to estimate calories, identify nutrients, or understand whether a meal aligns with their health goals. We created NutriLenz to make nutrition accessible through AI—simply take a photo of your food and receive instant, personalized insights.

What it does

NutriLenz is an AI-powered nutrition assistant that analyzes food images and provides detailed nutritional information. Users can upload a photo of a meal to instantly receive calorie estimates, macronutrient breakdowns, ingredient detection, health scores, dietary warnings, and personalized recommendations. The platform helps users make informed food choices without manual tracking.

How we built it

We built NutriLenz using modern AI and computer vision technologies. Food images are processed through an image recognition pipeline to identify ingredients and meal types. The detected food items are matched with nutrition databases to generate calorie and nutrient estimates. An AI recommendation engine then provides health insights, dietary suggestions, and meal alternatives based on the user's goals and preferences. The application is designed with a simple and intuitive user interface to ensure a seamless experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was accurately identifying complex meals that contain multiple ingredients. Portion size estimation and nutritional accuracy also required careful consideration. We worked on improving recognition reliability while maintaining fast response times and a user-friendly experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a solution that transforms a simple food photo into meaningful nutritional insights within seconds. We are proud of combining AI-powered image analysis, nutrition intelligence, and personalized recommendations into a single platform that is easy for anyone to use.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained valuable experience in computer vision, AI-powered recommendations, nutrition data processing, and user-centered product design. We also learned the importance of balancing accuracy, performance, and usability when building health-focused applications.

What's next for NutriLenz

Our next goal is to add real-time meal tracking, personalized diet plans, fitness integration, barcode scanning, progress analytics, and support for medical dietary conditions such as diabetes and heart health. We also plan to improve food recognition accuracy and expand our nutrition database to support global cuisines.
