Inspiration

Our inspiration for NutriGo was our friends and family. We noticed a lot of them telling us how they don't know what meals to eat because of their various protein and carb deficiencies. This fueled us to create a tool where people can see what meals they need to fill their nutrient deficiencies just with their personalized info. We were also inspired by unhealthy individuals that are trying to change but can't because they don't know how. Our app is an all in one place for both those who want new recipes tailored to them, and those who want to get healthier.

What it does

Here, at NutriGo, we believe a personalized experience is the best way to approach health tracking, because everyone is different. And because, most importantly, it's all about you and your health! In order to achieve this, our developers have created a software that will track your dietary needs, and provide personalized suggestions. This will make reaching your health goals an adventure, rather than a chore.

Our specialized application works to make your life easier by telling you how to reach your goals. This is done by tracking your meals, which is done when the user provides the app with logs based on the meals they have eaten. For example, you may want to track what you ate for lunch today. After logging these meals, NutriGo will track the macronutrients of meals and, in return, provide the user with remaining nutritional needs, as well as recipes, that are personalized based on you and what you like, and need, to best reach your health goals!

How we built it

We built Nutrigo from the ground up using Python, with a graphical library named tkinter and the USDA api.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many merge conflicts with GitHub that had to be resolved. We also did not know how to expand on our algorithm, but decided to try a lot of different techniques instead of giving up. This paid off, as we made an effective and powerful app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that in a mere two days, we were able to not only make a functioning UI through tkinter, but also a powerful algorithm that can be used to help many people.

What we learned

We learned how to use APIs and GitHub, as well as many machine learning topics from the different lectures.

What's next for NutriGo

While our experience is already personalized, we hope to eventually create a profile for each person that they can log in to and expand to web applications. We plan to get in touch with real experts in the field and add links to specialized people like dieticians in the app itself. We can also allow a way to donate to homeless shelters and soup kitchens. We also want to expand on the physical aspect with exercise routines to go along with the data. Finally, we can allow people to connect with those that have similar profiles and work towards a goal. Using our app as a framework, we can use the data to accomplish many feats.
