Inspiration

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), unhealthy diets are a leading risk factor for global mortality, contributing to over 11 million deaths annually. In the United States alone, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that poor diet is a major factor in the prevalence of chronic conditions such as heart disease, which is the leading cause of death, accounting for nearly 696,000 deaths per year.

What it does

Our app is designed to simplify nutrition planning for gatherings, making it easier to accommodate diverse dietary needs. By allowing users to create customized nutrition plans, the app can handle group-specific dietary restrictions and allergies, ensuring everyone’s needs are met.

How we built it

With the help of the Python GUI library Custom Tkinter, we were able to create a user-friendly interface that improves user engagement. We used SQL databases to handle safe login verification and effectively store group data for backend processes.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the development process, we faced a few obstacles. Using GitHub Desktop to merge branches was one big problem that occasionally resulted in conflicts that needed to be carefully resolved to preserve code integrity. We also had trouble combining all the parts into a single file, which needed careful planning and optimization.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to effectively solve issues of dietary needs and spread this accommodation to many others. Also, we learned how to properly use and apply Github Desktop with VSCode!

What we learned

We gained further insight into collaborative coding techniques by learning the nuances of utilizing GitHub Desktop for version control, including how to handle and settle merge conflicts.

What's next for NutriFest

Looking ahead, we plan to enhance the app by incorporating additional features based on user feedback, such as advanced dietary analytics and more meal planning options. Thank you Bay Hacks for this incredible opportunity!
