Inspiration
Managing a health condition can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to nutrition. Many individuals struggle to find the right ingredients and meals to support their well-being. Our team wanted to create a solution that empowers women to take charge of their health through informed meal planning. NutriCare was born out of a desire to make nutritional guidance more accessible, tailored, and actionable.
What it does
NutriCare is a smart meal-planning assistant designed to help individuals, particularly women, manage their health conditions through personalized nutrition. The platform offers:
- Health-Focused Meal Planning: Users start by selecting a health concern they wish to address, such as diabetes, heart disease, or PCOS.
- Ingredient Recommendations: NutriCare pulls from the USDA’s FoodData Central API to provide a list of beneficial ingredients based on the selected health concern.
- Curated Recipes: The platform suggests recipes that incorporate these ingredients, ensuring meals are both nutritious and delicious.
- Seamless User Experience: Tested for 8 different types of colorblindness, this site is compatible with WCAG standards. NutriCare also makes healthy eating simple and personalized with its intuitive UI.
How we built it
- Our team leveraged the USDA’s FoodData Central API to source accurate and science-backed nutritional information. We also used react and tailwind. Our designer used Figma to create the mockups.
- Extracting and filtering relevant nutritional data from the USDA API was complex. There was lots of data in the database and we kept getting results for only baby food haha.
- Successfully integrating real-time nutritional data from a credible source.
Designing a really cute and intuitive site.
Creating a solution that addresses real-world health concerns and promotes well-being.
- The importance of structuring and filtering large datasets for usability.
- API integration best practices for fetching and displaying nutritional data.
- The impact of personalized nutrition on overall health management.
- User Customization: Allowing users to input dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Mobile Application: Developing a mobile-friendly version for increased accessibility.
- Integration with Wearables: Connecting with health-tracking devices to offer even more personalized recommendations.
