Inspiration The inspiration for this project came from a simple realization I had while grocery shopping with my family in Ethiopia. At 14 years old as a CEO of my company called Lomic, I am part of a generation that is more conscious than ever about what we put into our bodies. However, I noticed a massive problem: while we have all the world’s information on our phones, we still can’t truly "see" what is in our food.

I found myself overwhelmed by labels, wondering which foods were actually organic and safe, and which were just good marketing. I realized that my peers and I shouldn't need a degree in chemistry just to eat healthily. I wanted to build an "Intelligent Food Shield" that uses Gemini 3 to do the hard work for us—scanning, analyzing, and verifying safety in seconds. I want to prove that you’re never too young to solve a fundamental human problem: the right to know exactly what is on our plates.

What it Does NutriScan PRO is an all-in-one multimodal health ecosystem:

The Food Shield: Scan any item to see instant ingredient breakdowns and verify if it is truly organic.

Pantry AI (Fridge Scan): Scan your fridge, and the AI suggests the best healthy meals you can cook with those specific ingredients.

Gemini Live Call: A real-time voice feature where you can talk directly to the AI for guidance while cooking or shopping.

Menu Decoder: Scan a restaurant menu, and the AI recommends the healthiest options based on your personal health profile (weight, goals, and current path).

Gamified Health: Users earn a Rank based on their healthy choices, making nutrition fun and competitive.

AI Personal Trainer: The app tracks your weight and goals, acting as a 24/7 coach that controls and monitors your food intake.

How I Built It I used a modern "Vibe Coding" workflow to build this rapidly. The tech stack includes:

Gemini 3 Pro & Flash: For high-speed multimodal vision and real-time voice calls.

Google AI Studio: For rapid prototyping and prompt engineering.

Firebase: For hosting and data management.

React: For a clean, responsive web interface.

Challenges I Faced Building a world-class AI app in Ethiopia came with unique hurdles. I faced frequent internet and power issues, and as a Grade 8 student, I had to balance intense schoolwork with my passion for coding. Additionally, being 14, it was sometimes a challenge to convince those around me that I was building a serious business, but I stayed focused on my vision for Lomic.

Accomplishments I'm Proud Of I am incredibly proud of successfully integrating the Live AI Call feature. Seeing the AI "talk" back to me to help me solve a real-world health problem was a moment that made all the late nights worth it.

What’s Next for Lomic If I win, I plan to use the prize money to upgrade my development setup and officially launch Lomic as a leading AI startup in East Africa. This is just the beginning; I want to continue winning hackathons and proving that Ethiopian youth can lead the AI revolution.
