Inspiration
NutQuest is a captivating game that was born out of a deep passion for animals and a concern for their well-being during the grueling months of winter. Inspired by the impact of climate change on wildlife, I created a game that connects entertainment to raising awareness. It is not just an enjoyable game, but a call to action for all the animal lovers out there to create a brighter future for these creatures.
What it does
The player can use the left and right arrow keys to move the chipmunk and collect the chestnuts falling from the trees. They must collect 15 chestnuts to ensure that the chipmunk survives the winter. If the score drops to a negative number, the chipmunk does not survive the winter.
How I built it
I built it on Replit with JavaScript and planned my code on a slideshow. I started by coding the Minimum Viable Product and progressed by adding additional features, including a restart function.
Challenges I ran into
Fortunately, I didn't run into any significant issues. But, I did have trouble adding images and ensuring that the chestnuts don't fall diagonally from the top of the screen.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of completing my first game and gaining so much information in a few days.
What I learned
I learned how to use JavaScript and p5.js.
What's next for NutQuest
I hope to create new levels and more falling objects that would be negative to the chipmunk like a lumberjack or coyote. I want more people to access it by making it compatible with phones as it currently only runs on web browsers.
Built With
- javascript
- p5.js
- replit
