Inspiration
Indonesia, as the fourth most populous country in the world, is a very rich country, both in terms of natural resources and culture. With more than 17,500 islands, 1,340 ethnic groups, and 718 regional languages, Indonesia is widely recognized for its diversity. One aspect that stands out is its natural beauty, especially the marine area, which covers an area of 6.4 million km².
However, even though Indonesia has so many beautiful islands and coastlines, tourists, both foreign and local, generally only visit tourist destinations that are already popular. Many potential destinations are not widely known and are still rarely visited. This condition occurs due to several factors, one of which is the lack of knowledge and information about tourist areas scattered throughout Indonesia. As a result, tourism potential in various regions has not been optimally utilized.
Our goal with creating this application is to help more people discover the beautifully diverse cultures, history, traditions, and cultural heritage in the less-known regions of Indonesia, while helping more people connect with the people who currently live in those regions by promoting their local business and sharing their stories.
What it does
The NusaGO! application is a digital Indonesian culture guide designed to help users discover and explore hidden destinations across various regions in Indonesia. In the demo phase, we focused on Sorong, West Papua—an area that remains relatively unknown despite its remote location and limited accessibility. Sorong holds immense potential for both natural and cultural tourism.
Key features of the app include: a Map-based Search to quickly find places to visit or entertainment to enjoy, a Discovery section offering a wealth of informative articles about local destinations and cultures, personalized Recommendations for users who are unsure where to go or what to do, and a Saved feature that allows users to bookmark their favorite places or articles for future visits.
Through NusaGO!, we aim to highlight the richness of the hidden regions like Sorong, while fostering tourism development and supporting the local economy by promoting small businesses within the area.
How we built it
Since we are a no-code team, we mainly focused on the UI that we built using Figma. As for the picture that we use as the display and the information, we used Google to help us find out all about it, so we don’t give the wrong information about Indonesian culture. We also used Figma’s core features, such as interactions and auto-layout, to make a neat and functional prototype just in time to submit our project!
Challenges we ran into
- Figuring out how to create a well-designed prototype that can show our main features
- Choosing which features are truly important to show in our prototype since we only have a limited amount of time to design our prototype
- Figma’s auto layout sometimes can be confusing
- Researching the suitable region to choose as our example alongside its "worth to visit" places
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Able to finish this apps within the time limit
- Learned how to have a good team work
- Learned to listen & make the best decision together
- Turning the ideas into reality together
What we learned
- How we can contribute to solving life's problems through technology
- How to have foresight into the problem to be solved and whether or not the proposed solution can be sustainable
- How to take the user’s point of view to understanding the problem
- How to communicate well within a team and how to schedule work within the time given
What's next for NusaGO!
- Since we created our app prototype without using code, the next step for NusaGO! is to develop a real working application that could eventually be deployed
- We want our app to eventually contain well written articles that faithfully cover local culture, history, art, and stories for every region in Indonesia. That’s why we also wish to connect with local business owners and craftspeople to share their stories and raise more national and global interest for their work.
