Inspiration
Our inspiration for Nurture began with a simple question in mind, "why do most task manager apps look boring?"
What it does
Nurture is a task manager app that allows users to keep track of daily tasks. Upon completion of these tasks, a flower will be added to your garden.
How we built it
We used a combination of REACT and JavaScript for the front end, and Google's Firebase for the back end. This allowed us to seamlessly integrate a trusted and secure account system without needing to build our own, while keeping us focused on developing the front end.
Challenges we faced
As our first Hackathon, using GitHub in a group setting posed several challenges. For one, setting up the project proved to be a challenge and mitigating any merge conflicts were both challenges we encountered. We were able to overcome this early on by only merging branches at significant developments in our app, while employing thorough review and approval before pushing to our main branch.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have created visual artwork entirely in-house, without using any external assets.
What we learned
After developing Nurture, we have gained valuable knowledge in creating frontend web applications as well as implementing user authentication through the use of Firebase.
What's next for Nurture
In the future, we plan to implement more functionality with task management, mixing practicality with intriguing visuals by incorporating Firebase to track task completion of multiple users. This would be represented by a flower towards the lower half of the screen, growing leaves as a user finishes their daily tasks.
