🚀 Inspiration We were inspired by the incredible pressure nurses and caregivers face every day—balancing patient care, charting, constant questions, and emotional labor. We wanted to build a tool that could support them in real time, reduce cognitive load, and offer reliable answers without the wait. NurseNora was born from a desire to empower healthcare heroes with an always-available, intelligent, and empathetic assistant. Also one of our members was interested in the medicine space for AI.

💡 What it does NurseNora is an AI-powered assistant tailored for nurses, nursing students, and caregivers. It provides: Instant answers to clinical questions (e.g., medication info, procedures, diagnoses) Step-by-step care plans and workflows Emotional check-ins and stress relief tips Educational support for students prepping for NCLEX or nursing school Role-based interaction — it adapts based on whether you're an RN, CNA, student, or family caregiver It’s like chatting with a kind, knowledgeable nurse who never sleeps.

🛠️ How we built it We built NurseNora using: OpenAI GPT-4.5 with custom prompt engineering for clinical safety and empathy React + TailwindCSS (via Vite) for a fast, mobile-friendly frontend Supabase for authentication and secure user profile storage LangChain for managing conversation context and routing prompts A lightweight vector search layer for referencing real-world nursing knowledge We emphasized a clean, chat-first UI and focused on human-like interactions with guardrails for sensitive topics.

🧗‍♀️ Challenges we ran into Preventing AI hallucinations while still answering complex medical questions Designing a UI that nurses trust and feel comfortable using under pressure Managing role-based logic without bloating the frontend Finding high-quality, nurse-specific datasets for AI grounding Less experience with N8N and having our team member leaving due to schedule.
