Nurse bridge was born from lived clinical experience. As a Registered Nurse and Midwife with over twelve years in practice, I have worked through emergency shortages, strike actions, and sudden absences that left hospitals overwhelmed. I watched patients wait, care quality decline, and colleagues burn out under impossible workloads. What struck me most was the contradiction: while hospitals struggled to find nurses, many qualified nurses were available but disconnected from real-time demand. After relocating to Makurdi, this gap became even more visible. I began asking a simple question: why should a lack of coordination cost lives? That question became a mission. NurseBridge exists to ensure that when care is needed, the right nurse is available, verified, and ready—without delay. NurseBridge is a digital healthcare workforce marketplace that connects hospitals, clinics, and households with verified, on-demand nurses. It enables healthcare facilities to fill urgent shift gaps quickly while allowing nurses to access flexible income opportunities. Beyond hospitals, individuals can request qualified nurses for home-based services such as blood pressure checks, blood sugar monitoring, and routine care. By integrating verification, availability tracking, and efficient matching, NurseBridge reduces response time, improves continuity of care, and strengthens healthcare delivery systems. It transforms staffing from reactive chaos into structured, reliable coordination. We started lean. Using WhatsApp, we manually coordinated between hospitals and trusted nurses within existing professional networks. This allowed us to validate demand, understand response patterns, and identify operational bottlenecks without heavy upfront costs. Each interaction provided data—how quickly hospitals needed replacements, what qualifications were required, and how far nurses were willing to travel. From these insights, we designed the framework for a scalable platform. We are now transitioning toward an AI-powered Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that will automate matching, manage data efficiently, and optimize workforce allocation based on skill, availability, and proximity. Limited funding has slowed technology development, requiring us to operate manually longer than planned. Building trust with healthcare institutions takes time, especially in a system that relies heavily on familiarity and reputation. Credential verification demands strict processes to ensure safety and compliance. Additionally, ongoing nurse migration reduces local supply, increasing demand pressure. Balancing speed with quality assurance remains critical, as healthcare decisions cannot afford errors. Accomplishments that we're proud of We have successfully validated the NurseBridge concept in a real-world setting using a simple, low-cost model. Hospitals have expressed clear demand for faster staffing solutions, and nurses have shown willingness to participate for flexible income opportunities. We have built a trusted network of verified professionals and demonstrated that rapid shift coordination is both possible and valuable. Most importantly, we have moved from idea to execution, proving that this solution can work in underserved regions like Makurdi. We learned that the problem is not just a shortage of nurses, but a failure of coordination. Speed, trust, and verification are the three pillars of effective healthcare staffing. Hospitals prioritize reliability over cost when patient care is at stake, while nurses value flexibility and timely payment. We also learned that starting lean accelerates insight. By engaging directly with users, we gained a deeper understanding of real needs, allowing us to design a solution grounded in reality, not assumptions. Our next step is to build and launch an AI-powered MVP that automates nurse-to-demand matching. The system will optimize allocation using the following model: Optimal Match = max (Skill Compatibility × Availability × Proximity) This will significantly reduce response time and improve efficiency. We aim to onboard hundreds of verified nurses, secure partnerships with healthcare facilities, and expand beyond Makurdi into wider regions. NurseBridge is evolving from a manual coordination tool into a scalable healthcare workforce infrastructure designed to serve Nigeria and, ultimately, Africa.
