NudgeFund
An AIpowered spending coach that turns impulsive spending into intentional saving.
Why we built it: We launched NudgeFund after our first month of college and realized how quickly money disappears. As freshman international students, new routines + new places + small impulse buys added up fast. We wanted something gentle that makes you pause before spending and gives clear feedback after (no spreadsheets, no stress0.
What it does: Before you buy: NudgeFund asks three quick questions about the purchase. Instant verdict: You get a positive / neutral / negative decision with a short, firm suggestion. Afterwards: We store decisions and generate monthly summaries showing: total spent, potential savings (from “negative” purchases), category breakdowns and places to improve.
How we built it: App: React Native with Expo Backend & Auth: Supabase AI Coaching: Gemini (Google) Design goals: fast, friendly, and easy to use on mobile Note - This app was built with the help of Microsoft Copilot
Challenges: Using AI and API in database outputs along with data modeling and auth. Fixing small bugs (keyboard overlap, focus states) and auth edge cases.
What we learned: Team coordination and rapid debugging on a real mobile stack Structuring prompt engineering + validation for reliable AI UX Tying Supabase data and AI outputs together to create presentable, actionable insights
What’s next: AI chatbot for ondemand budgeting advice Savings goals and weekly insights Gentle reminders and smarter category tips More performance polish to make NudgeFund a daily finance buddy
