Inspiration

The app was inspired by one of our team members, who worked in mental health. He wanted to create an application that would deliver CBT and DBT therapies. I wanted to provide support to folks who are struggling with mental health through stories. We combined our ideas to create Nudge.

What it does

Nudge is an application that delivers CBT and DBT therapies through stories. It nudges users through push notifications to complete their daily therapy. It is also gamified to encourage daily use.

How I built it

I sketched wireframes, created basic user flows, and fleshed out the visual components of the app in Sketch. After I was done designing the front-end of the application, our engineer coded the application in Swift.

Challenges I ran into

We added the gamification after we got feedback that the push notifications might not be enough to get users to keep using the app to complete their therapy. The gamification doesn't look like it is integrated into the application. I wish I had more time to fine tune appearance of the application.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I worked with a team of professionals from different backgrounds. I helped produce a functional application in 3 days.

What I learned

I need to be more responsive to feedback from professionals. Our application could have been better if our team would have implemented more changes in response to the feedback we received during the development phase of our project.

What's next for Nudge

Nudge was built to meet the demands of a Hackathon challenge. I hope to see the concept lift off so that DBT/CBT therapies can be provided to patients in the comfort of their own home.
