Inspiration
MOOD.it aims to provide resources for college students who are overwhelmed to manage their high levels of stress and anxiety.
From 18 user interviews and survey participants, one main user problem is that college students struggle to give themselves a break or take time out of their day for self-reflection.
So, How might we design an app that encourages self-reflection in order to help college students feel a little better each day?
What it does
MOOD.it is a live, interactive journal to declutter your thoughts, process your emotions, and track your personal progress.
You Dump your thoughts onto sticky notes, categorize clusters of thoughts into different moods, and evaluate your fluctuations over time. MOOD.it also suggests ways in which might help you feel better, like calling a friend or ordering food.
Why is this effective? Our user research indicates that 90% of users prefer to talk or write things out to evaluate their thoughts and feelings in a more objective manner.
MOOD.it helps you do just that.
How we built it
Using the Double Diamond Framework, we discovered a white space opportunity, validated our hypothesis through user research, narrowed our findings and problem statement, ideated potential features, and designed with creativity, passion, and in correspondence to visual design principles.
More about this in our Design Thinking Report!
Challenges we ran into
There was a lot of data and themes from our user interviews, which was great but hectic. We spent a lot of time defining and redefining our objective, problem statement, and how our solutions align with the latter.
We effectively overcame this chaotic phase by aligning back to our "north star", How might we design an app that encourages self-reflection in order to help college students feel a little better each day?
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have never worked all together before, and we all agree that we delivered our best work to date! It was extremely fulfilling to see our growth since our first design competitions. #feelingaccomplished
What we learned
We learned how to manage our time very effectively. We all love to talk and come up with new possibilities, and we each learned to keep focus during the divergent phases of the design process.
Overall, we learned that continuously checking in with our main objective provides direction for the rest of the project.
What's next for MOOD.it
Some of us are pursuing full-time jobs, and others, pursuing internships. We are excited to continually develop our design skills and learn from our most recent project-- MOOD.it!
