Inspiration
I have met many people who suffer from asthma on a daily basis. The shocking thing was that most of them didn't even know they had Asthma Disease. Asthma is a disease that affects people on daily basis during their work or playtime and we wanted that people should know about it and they should do their best to avoid it as much as possible. It not only affects your workflow but if left unseen, it can turn into a life-threatening disease causing death. This project is meant to create awareness about asthma in such simple terms that even an average American citizen can understand.
What it does
This project is meant to spread awareness about asthma in simplest terms possible. Not only that, but we also want that people should know how asthma is caused and what are the main symptoms of it. This project also has a self-test section where you can check if you have asthma just from a handful of yes/no questions. It also has a (PARS) Pediatric Asthma Risk Score system which can help predict asthma in toddlers during their young age using a simple yes/no quiz.
How we built it
We build this using Nextjs and several other libraries like Gsap and Lenis. This project has 3 pages each of which use react routing to navigate from. We used figma to design the prototype for this website in order to keep a minimal and easy to understand design in mind while maintaining a good contrast between the text and the background. We did lots of research and searched for any tool that we can implement to help others with asthma disease.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into multiple challenges while creating this project and my biggest problem was Time. I had various tests going on in school so I couldn't take off time from my schedule to work on this project and not being able to give proper time resulted in various design failures and lack of time. At last, I started t this project from scratch 48 hours before the deadline and to be honest, I am happy with what I have achieved. It still lacks many features which I had planned but I'm planning to add all of them later 😉.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that I was able to pull it off within the last moment of this hackathon. I am also very happy about the design and the concept of our project which is to create awareness about Asthma.
What we learned
There are lots of things I learned while working on this project and one of the biggest achievement was managing time. I learned that it's really important to manage your time and make priorities to what things should get the most and least time. Another thing I learned was we shouldn't think too much of what we can achieve. I had many plans in mind which I wanted to add in this project but I wasn't able to do that because of lack of time. You never know what future awaits!
What's next for NTA — No To Asthma
I am planning to add various new features such as simple animations for better explanation of topics mentioned and various little transition to catch the eye of the visitor. I will also be adding a map feature which you can use to see the Air Quality Index (AQI) and pollen rate of various places. I will also be adding a resources section from where you can learn more about asthma and its features from handpicked online sources that have the right and legitimate information!
