Inspiration
NOW was actually born 25 years ago linking Excel to my accounting software on the same machine. This allowed clients to build complex models that auto updated. 25 years later, with cloud-based systems, I decided to go back and recreate this. Using skills developed on building Live TV engagement (www.ipowow.com) and private messaging network with Bots (www.rapporr.com) with systems demanding quick actions.
Google Sheets, being cloud-based and then linking to Xero, a cloud-based accounting system gives the best of two worlds. Google Sheets is an island that currently depends upon manual export/importing from other systems like Xero and is limited to the data that Xero is exporting through its reports.
Using the power of Functions, I can now repeat the same capability of 25 years ago in pulling data from Xero as needed. Whatever cell the formula is in, based upon the rules that have been set, the data is pulled from Xero and displayed. Have seen 1,000 cells update in 8 seconds for a 13-week cash flow model.

Now Google Sheet isn't an island anymore and I will grow this to link to many systems through the simple power of Functions. Next project is linking to Excel to Xero through the same ability using the new functions of Excel Javascript functions.
