Now And Then was inspired by a challenge from an Open Source hackathon at the United Nations Headquarters, asking developers to build projects exploring the UN Sustainable Development Goals; the lives of youth; the lives of women; and data visualization.
How it works
Now And Then uses the Google Maps and Streetview APIs in order to display real images of the world. Meteor.js and simple frontend design are used in order to overlay historical data to landmarks.
Challenges I ran into
Google Maps and Streetview APIs were unfamiliar, and, resultingly, slightly challenging to integrate into a web app. Currently, only the UN HQ and the Empire State Building in NYC are available.
What's next for Now And Then
Web scraping and database access in order to expand the range of Now And Then's information will be valuable.
