Inspiration
I was inspired to build this because a lot of stock screeners don't meet the right criteria for people who want to learn. Without the right criteria, a lot of traders give up because they don't know what they are looking for. I also wanted to build a way for beginner traders to connect with more professional traders.
What it does
Users can learn about stock markets, screen for stocks based on various criteria, and engage in discussions with other members to share insights and knowledge related to stock trading and investment.
How we built it
I built the whole application using PHP, MySql, HTML, CSS, and JS. I used JS to web scrape data for the screener. I used PHP and MySql to build the database for authentication and the forum posts. I used HTML and CSS for the UI.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge I ran into was building the database I would get constant errors from the database. I also ran into errors with the way the web scraping results were coming out. I tried placing it into a CSV file but the format was off so the data was inaccurate
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that in the end, the basic MVP was complete with all the basic features I intended.
What we learned
I learned how professional screeners work so I could build my own. Surprisingly there's not much known about it so I could only use the logic but was unable to replicate the UI since it can't be found.
What's next for Novo Trade
make the UI better and add more features in both the screener and Forum. I also want to build a section where people can use a stock simulator to trade so people can learn from experience as well.
