Inspiration With the rapid evolution of smart TV ecosystems, building intuitive, clutter-free, and performance-optimized streaming interfaces tailored for Ten-foot UI (living room environments) remains a primary challenge for developers. We set out to bridge this gap by creating NovaCast, a modern web-based streaming client built specifically to deliver smooth, remote-friendly media discovery and video-on-demand (VOD) navigation on Fire TV devices.
What It Does NovaCast provides a dedicated, responsive streaming interface optimized for large screens. Key features include: Ten-Foot UI Optimization:Scaled layouts, prominent focus states, and streamlined navigation designed for effortless D-pad and remote control interaction. Dynamic VOD Grid & Hero Section:** A rich media catalog layout featuring an immersive hero banner for featured content and organized category rows for seamless content browsing. Lightweight & Fast Architecture:** Built with modern web standards ensuring lightning-fast load times and instant responsiveness.
How We Built It
Frontend & UI Developed using HTML5 and styled dynamically with Tailwind CSS (via CDN) to rapidly prototype and implement responsive TV-centric design patterns and precise focus management.
Deployment & Hosting: Hosted and continuously deployed live via GitHub Pages, ensuring a smooth pipeline directly from our main branch to a production-ready URL.
Challenges We Overcame Adapting standard web design principles to a TV screen requires strict attention to spatial awareness, readability from a distance, and visual feedback for remote control focus states. By leveraging Tailwind's utility classes and custom focus utilities, we successfully engineered a crisp, highly accessible interface that feels right at home in any living room.
What We Learned Throughout this development process, we mastered the core principles of Ten-foot user interface design, optimizing layout scaling for large-format displays, and establishing frictionless deployment workflows directly through GitHub Pages.
