Inspiration

After hearing from many of our friends about their experiences on dating apps, we decided to actually do something about it by creating an app where those small requests are actually implemented and make a big change.

What it does

Aside from the normal features of a dating app, with nova you can leave personal feedback to the person you are in contact with which would be constructive, and you can also leave a rating and review on their profile to boost it if they are good or the opposite if their behavior is less than ideal.

How we built it

For this project, we used Firespace to host the website as well as authenticating user interactions (registration, login, and more). As such, we used the JavaScript language to help build the website along with HTML and CSS, and frameworks such as Bootstrap also helped complete the product.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into was creating the database on Firespace and connecting it to our website. Although one would expect an all-in-one platform to facilitate database management, this was not the case when we were building nova.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Firstly, we are very proud of the idea that we have created as many people who use such apps praised the final product and proved that there was a big market for a website with features like this. We are also very proud of the amount of work that we were able to do within the time frame of this Hackathon, especially because of the size of the goal that we initially had.

What we learned

One important thing we learned is the importance of preparation, especially when it comes to the amount of knowledge we have about technologies we wish to use, which in this case is JavaScript and Database Management.

What's next for nova

The team here at nova plan to keep working on this website and fully fledge it out so that it can be available to the public. We are very excited about this idea and have no doubt about the demand it could have.
