Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project is to help families find nutiriuous, affordable food, locally, clready and for free.

What it does

Improves access to healthy food by allowing families to search for nearby stores based on criteria like distance, dietary restrictions, SNAP eligibility. A user can search for stores within seconds and see their locations on a map in real time.

How we built it

We started by making a simple mockup of a frontend using HTML and JS, then wrote a backend using Python and hooked it up to the JS frontend. We then refined the interface and added a landing page for the project.

Challenges we ran into

Various challenges popped up, such as the dietary restriction selection failing for seemingly no reason, implementing the live map, and finding a working API we could query for free.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to build a working site that could actually display useful information and do more than a single Google search might.

What we learned

We learned that organization is really important. Throughout the project, we had to deal with various merge conflicts, which could be resolved via better communication.

What's next for Nourish

We might be able to take Nourish even further by implementing features like showing open hours for stores, filtering by accessibility information, (eg. wheelchair ramps) and querying more APIs for a wider selection of data.
